Tomorrow Awards
Have you heard of the Tomorrow Awards yet? I love the idea!
“Dedicated to discovering, showcasing and awarding advertising creativity that pushes new technological boundaries” Do I need to say more? Sweet! And you can register as a judge and take part too! It sounds very democratic, I am excited to see the work submitted!
A few weeks ago I photographed portrait of Ignacio who’s idea the Tomorrow Awards are. I wanted it clean, professional and modern, but still make it about him and his personality, not just my fancy lighting.
I am sick of seeing those dated looking portraits on blotchy canvas background that look like photos of my grandpa from 30 years ago. Do people really think that those represent them well? It is surprising how many still have shots like that on their websites, but the worse part is that there is a good chance they were shot in the recent past.
So I thought about what Ignacio wanted, wearing his three piece suit, looking all professional and what not. And also about the idea he is representing and spreading the word about. I considered all of this and came up with clean lighting set-up. We chatted with Ignacio about his ideas and in less than an hour, we had more than we needed. Creative guy with a clear goal, presenting himself in a very professional way. Having nothing to hide and looking towards the future with enthusiasm and excitement. These to me say contemporary, professional, friendly and fresh, what do you think? With a little retouching (not much, Ignacio is a good looking guy!), here are few of my favorites.
I love photographing people, it is always fun and interesting. Each person is so unique! There is a difference between setting up a portrait on location and setting it up in a studio. I don’t have a preference for either, each offers it’s own challenges and each can be rewarding. The real challenge is to engage the sitter to want to participate, because without collaboration and trust, there is no portrait.
On another note, I have been writing this blog for almost a year to get my ideas out and share my thoughts, inspirations and photography, but also to hear what you think of my work. So don’t be shy! Leave a comment!
